W.Va.’s MORGANTOWN Guard Nick Norton, a former Drake assistant, is the first member of Darian DeVries’ coaching staff at West Virginia University. On Wednesday, he was announced as WVU’s assistant coach and director of player development.

Norton is going to be the director of player development and assistant coach.

According to DeVries, “Nick is a diligent worker who brings great enthusiasm and tremendous energy to our basketball program.” He always gets along well with our players and is intelligent about basketball. Nick is a perfect fit for both our basketball staff and program.

At Drake, Norton has worked with DeVries since the 2021–2022 season. Drake finished with an 80-26 record over those three seasons, winning two Missouri Valley Conference championships and making two trips to the NCAA Tournament.

In 2014, Norton commenced his collegiate athletic career at UAB, where he made 97 game starts for the Blazers. In 2018, Norton moved to Drake for his senior year of collegiate basketball. Before an injury ended his collegiate career, he averaged 14.0 points, 5.9 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game.
