Before their Final Four game against UConn on Friday, the Iowa women’s basketball team had a special guest: Sabrina Ionescu, a standout player for the New York Liberty.
As one of the most well-known figures in the WNBA, Ionescu hoped to elevate and energise the Hawkeyes with a speech before surprise them with a brand-new pair of Nike sneakers, namely her Sabrina 1s. The shoes had the Hawkeye insignia on them and were yellow in color.
After the shock, Ionescu had a conversation with the players. She also gave stars Caitlin Clark and other players hugs.
“Enjoy playing for one another,” Ionescu said to the team in a video shared on social media. “You’re never going to get another room like this, there’s never going to be another team that you guys are going to be on that’s like this. Be proud of how you guys have represented yourself, represented your team and what you’ve done for everyone, not just Iowa basketball.”
