The Bulldogs extended an offer to Campbell in the middle of March. Campbell visited the campus informally on March 16 and will now make another trip. Campbell has developed a rapport with defensive line assistant Dayton LeBlanc and defensive line coach Tray Scott.

He now has a scheduled game against Ohio State from May 31 to June 2.

under addition to Florida, Kentucky, Auburn, LSU, and other programs have also offered and are under consideration.

Despite never having played high school football before, Campbell finished with 14.5 sacks.

“Over the past six years, I’ve had the chance to mentor seven additional gentlemen who have

played Division I football, one of which was as a sophomore starter at Tennessee. “To be honest, I think Javeon has a higher upside than almost anyone I’ve coached,” Western Hills head coach Simon Vanderpool remarked. “It’s just the combination of size, speed and really the tenacity it takes to play at that level.”

Campbell has an 89 rating and is ranked as the 32nd best defensive lineman in the class by 247Sports.

LEXINGTON – Under Kyra Elzy’s direction, Kentucky women’s basketball has a cumulative record of 24-39 over the past two seasons. That would imply that there was little hope for the program, but Kenny Brooks, who had just finished one year before at Virginia Tech to make it to the NCAA Tournament Final Four, saw enough promise in Kentucky to relocate from Blacksburg to Lexington to become the next head coach of the Wildcats.

“I thought Virginia Tech was a sleeping giant when I first arrived. I’ve learned a lot about Kentucky’s academic scene as I’ve continued my investigation. I am aware of the fandom

is quite ardent. I’m sure you’ll have access to resources that will enable you to get to a competitive level. You want to be in line with the SEC’s leadership and its rich history in order to attempt to develop something truly unique, as I am sure you are aware. Adding together all of that, I arrived at the conclusion that it will be a sleeping monster that must be roused “Brooks stated during his opening news conference on Thursday.

“I am here and I’m going to come in here and we are going to work.”

The resources that come with being an SEC member are what made Kentucky worthwhile in departing the powerhouse he established at Virginia Tech.

program.

UK intends to relocate into the $82 million, recently rebuilt Memorial Coliseum for the upcoming season.

“Not sure if I would be here (as Kentucky head coach) if it weren’t (for the Memorial Coliseum. renovations,” said Brooks. It matters in this day and age. It does, in fact. Sometimes it’s an arms race for facilities. To be able to draw them in, you need to have something truly appealing.”

In terms of NIL, the objective will be to gather sufficient funds to be in the “ballpark” of the SEC’s top players.

‌ “Obviously, NIL is something that’s very, very important,” Brooks stated. “I’ve had some first conversations and have been able to convey the significance of NIL. It goes without saying that this league is full of teams with NIL opportunities.

I believe you have to fall into that category if you want to be competitive. It must be within the ballpark. It is imperative to be present in the stadium, even if it is not necessary to be a leader. This is something I believe is crucial.”

Fortunately for Brooks, working at Kentucky comes with built-in support for navigating NIL.

Following the press conference, UK athletics director Mitch Barnhart said, “We only have two sports with an individual NIL person in their office: men’s basketball and women’s basketball, so they’ve already got that in place.”

Regarding the possibility of joining the SEC, the two most recent victors of the NCAA Tournament, South Carolina

and LSU are members of the league. In all, the SEC tied the ACC for the most teams in the NCAA Tournament in 2024 with eight teams (South Carolina, LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Vanderbilt) that made it that far.

It’s also no secret that the SEC and Big Ten are ahead of the curve in this age of conference realignment, which makes staying in the ACC at Virginia Tech longer-term less desirable than staying in the SEC at Kentucky.

“With the leadership of the SEC and where it’s going alongside with the Big Ten you kind of want to align yourself to be able to compete at the highest level year in and year out,” Brooks stated. I investigated each of those elements.

Considering everything it offered, including the tools needed to constantly compete, and I just felt like it was the correct decision.

“The nation’s top women’s basketball league is the SEC.” With the recent additions that we made, it just grew stronger.”

How quickly can Brooks make Kentucky women’s basketball, a sleeping giant, a victor? His athletic director won’t be in a rush to become successful right away.

“Go get better, no expectations,” Barnhart said.

“We’ve had a lot of trouble. It’s been difficult. I want the players to have a better experience. I want a better experience for our fans.”

Though his boss won’t rush him, Brooks sounded like a coach who thinks he can develop

to fantasize about a UK women’s basketball team that is ready to wake up and has a short turnaround.
