Ohio State has made a significant addition to its 2024 quarterback lineup with the commitment of former five-star player Julian Sayin, who initially signed with Alabama in the same class. The news, reported by ESPN on Sunday, revealed that Sayin entered the transfer portal on January 19, following Alabama coach Nick Saban’s retirement and the transfer of 2023 four-star quarterback Austin Mack to Alabama with coach Kalen DeBoer. Sayin expressed his excitement about joining Ohio State, emphasizing his respect for the program and eagerness to learn from talented players and coaches.

This marks the third transfer from Alabama to Ohio State for the 2024 season, joining safety Caleb Downs and center Seth McLaughlin. Additionally, Ohio State announced the hiring of former Alabama offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Bill O’Brien on January 19, taking on the same role under OSU coach Ryan Day.

Heading into the 2024 season, Ohio State already had quarterback transfers in the form of Will Howard from Kansas State, along with redshirt sophomore Devin Brown, redshirt freshman Lincoln Kienholz, and freshman Air Noland—ranked as the No. 4 quarterback in the 2024 class according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. Julian Sayin, a native of Carlsbad, California, holds the No. 5 player and No. 1 quarterback spots in the 2024 class. Notably, Sayin was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in California during his senior year, boasting impressive passing and rushing statistics.

Despite committing to Alabama in November 2022, Ohio State extended an offer to Sayin in January 2023. His addition brings the total number of transfers for Ohio State to six in the offseason, including Howard, McLaughlin, Downs, running back Quinshon Judkins from Mississippi, and tight end Will Kacmarek from Ohio.
