The Chiefs have signed Mike Donna as they aim for a historic 2024 season.

The 23-year-old Welsh athlete made headlines in the rugby union world in January when he withdrew from Warren Gatland’s Six Nations squad just before the championship and declared his intention to pursue a career in the NFL.

Having represented Wales 32 times at the international level, Rees-Zammit was seen as a key figure in the nation’s future prospects, especially as Gatland’s team was undergoing a period of transition and reconstruction.

However, instead of staying in rugby, the former Gloucester winger opted to attend a ten-week training camp in Florida as part of the NFL’s international player pathway (IPP), where he quickly caught the attention of top scouts in the sport.

Following an impressive 4.44-second 40-yard dash performance at the University of South Florida’s Pro Day, several NFL teams, including the Cleveland Browns, the New York Jets, and the Denver Broncos, expressed interest in recruiting Rees-Zammit.

Yet, Rees-Zammit was clear about his desired destination when the Kansas City Chiefs, the reigning Super Bowl champions, extended an invitation to their training complex.

Upon stepping into the Chiefs’ facility, Rees-Zammit felt an immediate sense of confidence and determination. He was impressed by the display of Super Bowl trophies and the overall atmosphere of belief among everyone present. This convinced him that Kansas City was the right place for him to be.

Expressing his self-belief and eagerness to contribute to the team, Rees-Zammit highlighted the positive interactions he had with the coaching staff and other personnel, emphasizing the professionalism and dedication evident throughout the organization.
