The New York Jets are thought to be the greatest option for Bo Nix, the former quarterback and FBS record holder out of Oregon, although it is unknown what the organization will do in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Matt Holder of Bleacher Report revealed their ranking of the top destinations for the top quarterbacks selected in the draft. He listed the Jets as Nix’s top landing location, which was shocking, but he also highlighted reasonable fits, like Caleb Williams to the Chicago Bears.
“Although Aaron Rodgers has shown to be such a wild card lately that it couldn’t hurt to have a backup plan in case he decides to pursue a political career, the New York Jets aren’t considered to be in the quarterback market,” Holder wrote. Plus, Rodgers turned 40 in December, and the Jets discovered the hard way how valuable a backup quarterback can be.
Bo Nix’s Record-Breaking College Career
Despite the fact that Nix’s time in college wasn’t always pleasant, his stellar season with the Oregon Ducks helped him position himself as one of the top quarterback prospects in this year’s selection.
A top dual-threat quarterback recruit in the 2019 high school class, he chose to play for his dad’s old team, the Auburn Tigers, before attending Oregon. As a true freshman, Nix assumed the starting role right away. However, during his three years in the program, he battled with consistency, which helped the Tigers to just a 21-13 record while he was the starter.
When Nix moved to Oregon in 2022, things immediately changed. Over the last two seasons, the Ducks finished 22-5 with Nix as their starting quarterback. He threw for 8,101 yards, 74 touchdowns, and just 10 interceptions. In addition, Nix broke the FBS record with 61 career starts, and he finished near the top of all records in terms of passing yards and touchdowns.
With so much college experience under his belt, it’s understandable why teams like the Jets could consider selecting him in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Scouting Report for Bo Nix
Nix’s noteworthy collegiate experience is what separates him from the next group of quarterbacks, which also includes Drake Maye, Caleb Williams, and Jayden Daniels. But Nix is a highly fascinating draft candidate for other reasons as well.
Thanks to his fast throw, Nix possesses one of the finest arms in this year’s draft class. Because of his genuine athleticism, he can produce big plays out of structure in addition to hitting receivers accurately at all levels of the field.
Despite this, Oregon relied on a short passing game with a lot of one-read throws and didn’t ask a lot of Nix as a post-snap thinker. Additionally, Nix frequently dropped his eyes when he was under pressure rather than keeping them up to find open receivers downfield.
With his skill set, Nix ought to be able to adjust to the demands of the NFL quarterback position rather quickly. Spending a year or two learning under a star like Aaron Rodgers could also help Nix get even more ready to be a starter in the future.
