Panthers are linked with Wests Tigers prop Lachlan Galvin.

James Fisher-Harris’ departure from the Penrith Panthers at the end of the current campaign was revealed last week, meaning the team will have plenty of salary cap room to pursue a replacement.

With Fisher-Harris leaving to be closer to his family, the New Zealand Warriors will inherit his skill and experience, leaving a massive void in the forward pack for the club going ahead.

Although there has been a lot of talk linking the Panthers to a number of forwards who will be free agents at the end of 2024 or 2025, analyst Andrew Voss thinks the team should focus on someone completely different.

Voss has advised the Panthers to look to the Tigers halves and recruit teenage prospect Lachlan Galvin, who has already been connected to Wests Tigers prop Stefano Utoikamanu.

Voss stated on SEN 1170 Breakfast, “People have immediately jumped on the bandwagon of (Penrith signing a front rower).”

Penrith doesn’t have a five-eighth, so I believe that when the dust settled, it did so very swiftly.

After looking over, I believe they should be prepared with a war chest in order to get a number six rather than a front rower, since they should be able to get one for $500,000.

“Whoa, Lachie Galvin turns become the rugby league’s most sought-after player. I think what the Penrith roster needs is Lachie Galvin.

Galvin’s arrival in the halves would be the ideal substitute for Jarome Luai in order to support Nathan Cleary.

Luai will join former Maori All Stars teammate Benji Marshall at the Wests Tigers after leaving the Panthers alongside Fisher-Harris at the end of the season, creating an even greater void in the team’s ranks.

Though improbable, the Tigers have already signed a number of halves, including Luai, Aidan Sezer, Latu Fainu, and Jayden Sullivan, for the upcoming campaign; nevertheless, one or two of them may be cut before the season even begins.

“With Jahrome Luai making $1.1 million, Latu Fainu earning $550,000 annually, and Jayden Sullivan signing a four-year contract, the Tigers are top-heavy,” Voss continued.

Lachie Galvin currently makes $150,000; he will get $250,000 the following year and $350,000 the year after. Lachie Galvin, Penrith, is now unavailable for interviews, but let me just add that I believe Penrith would benefit more from (a) five-eighth than from a highly visible front-row player.

Brad Schneider and Jack Cole are the Panthers’ current long-term replacements for Luai.
