Parramatta Eels Set for Major Changes as Veteran Forward Nears Move to Dragons

The St. George Illawarra Dragons are on the verge of enhancing their roster with the imminent acquisition of Reagan Campbell-Gillard from the Parramatta Eels. Shane Flanagan’s plans for a comprehensive team overhaul are set to receive a significant boost as the Dragons finalize a deal for the experienced prop. Despite having a year left on his contract with Parramatta, Campbell-Gillard has been given permission to explore opportunities with other clubs. North Queensland had previously shown interest but withdrew due to salary cap limitations, positioning the Dragons as the leading contenders for his signature.

The move aligns with Flanagan’s strategy to strengthen the Dragons’ forward pack, which already includes notable players like Hame Sele, Blake Lawrie, and Jack de Belin. Campbell-Gillard’s addition would further bolster a lineup that has struggled with consistency this season. Alongside Campbell-Gillard, the Dragons are also expected to welcome Damien Cook and Valentine Holmes, who will bring additional experience to the team. There are also speculations about the potential arrival of Clint Gutherson, although accommodating all new signings within the salary cap could require further adjustments to the current roster.

On the flip side, the Parramatta Eels are reportedly targeting Bulldogs winger Blake Wilson to enhance their backline. Wilson, who has impressed with his speed and scoring ability, is being considered as a valuable addition to the Eels’ squad. Despite his promising performances, Wilson has found himself behind established wingers like Josh Addo-Carr and Jacob Kiraz. The Eels are keen to inject more pace into their squad and view Wilson as a potential solution. However, Wilson’s current ankle injury could impact his availability for the upcoming season.

The Eels are also facing potential changes in their roster, with the future of club captain Clint Gutherson uncertain. The arrival of young Penrith fullback Isaiah Iongi could lead to Gutherson being shifted from his long-held No. 1 position. The potential move of Gutherson to a new role or club, combined with the Eels’ interest in Wilson, highlights a period of significant transition for the Parramatta side as they prepare for the next season.
