Expectations were high for New Orleans Saints’ wide receiver Chris Olave as he entered the season. The sophomore player from Ohio State had impressed in his rookie year and was poised to take on a central role in the team’s offense. Olave’s standout performances during the off-season training camp further fueled anticipation for his continued growth and impact on the field.
Throughout the season, Olave demonstrated progression from his debut year, securing 15 more receptions, 81 additional yards, and an extra touchdown. Despite not posting significantly higher numbers, his influence on opposing defensive strategies was evident.
His knack for making impactful catches earned him recognition, highlighted by his impressive yards per route run (+2.0) and a placement in the Top 15 of PFF’s overall Wide Receiver rankings. Consequently, Olave has swiftly gained recognition as one of the premier pass catchers in the NFL.
Anticipated to have a standout year in 2023, Chris Olave faced challenges due to chemistry issues and questionable play calling within the Saints’ offense. The integration of new quarterback Derek Carr contributed to timing difficulties between Olave and Carr early on, although they gradually found their rhythm as the season unfolded. Olave managed to achieve five 100-yard games with at least five receptions in 11 out of 16 games, along with eight games of 85 yards or more.
Despite the forthcoming transition with new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, there remains immense potential for the young wide receiver. With another off-season to build rapport with his quarterback and the benefit of increased experience, Olave is poised for a breakout season reminiscent of a Pro Bowl caliber performance. Saints fans eagerly anticipate Olave’s continued development and anticipate his potential to shine brightly for the team in the upcoming 2024-25 season.
