A six-figure price was reportedly promised to Dupree’s previous team, Salford Red Devils, at the time of the England international’s transfer to Rovers.

Before the Red Devils traded the forward to Wigan, Salford rejected two bids to sell Dupree to the Robins.

Dupree has commented on the controversy that transpired, even if he doesn’t specifically mention Rovers as the group he was associated with.

“I believe Salford was experiencing financial difficulties,” Dupree stated on Super League Stories.

“It’s unfortunate to see any clubs experiencing financial difficulties, but at the end of the day, things happen in rugby.

“I believe that after they exposed me and opened me up, a team arrived. While we were discussing it, my agent said to me, “Would you go there?”

I mentioned that I was having fun at Salford, but after hearing their explanation, I concluded that everything was better for everyone.

However, Salford sort of abruptly ended things and told me they would still keep in touch because they were in a strong position.

Then Wigan entered and apologized for continually bothering you, but they had decided to sell you to Wigan. It has further accelerated my career, so I’m kind of glad they did.
After joining the Warriors, Dupree has since developed into one of Super League’s most productive prop players.
