Just as they do every season for groups of all kinds, the Rangers welcomed local LGBTQ+ groups to a game as a fundraiser in September 2003, two years after the Chicago Cubs sponsored their first Pride game.

Prior to the game, a small number of Rangers supporters expressed their disapproval on their website, and there were some, though not very many, protests outside the stadium. The team’s standard response to inquiries was, “Our fans and our employees.”

In order to have a beneficial influence on our entire community, we are dedicated to fulfilling that promise in all of our numerous programs.” Since several conservative states have called for restrictions on LGBTQ+ rights, Texas, which has been governed by Republicans for a generation, has joined the campaign, as have state legislators and Governor Greg Abbott.
