
John Greig CBE, born on September 11, 1942, in Edinburgh, Scotland, is widely regarded as one of the most iconic figures in Scottish football history. His unwavering dedication to Rangers Football Club, both on and off the field, has solidified his status as a true legend.
Growing up in Edinburgh, Greig harbored dreams of playing for his boyhood club, Heart of Midlothian (Hearts). However, despite his passion, Hearts overlooked him during their scouting efforts, deeming him too small for the professional level. This disappointment led to a pivotal moment when Rangers scout Bob McAuley approached him. Initially hesitant, Greig was persuaded by his father to seize the opportunity, marking the beginning of an extraordinary journey with Rangers.
Greig’s versatility on the field was evident as he transitioned from an inside forward to a formidable defender.
