Pitching with the San Diego Padres in 2023, Snell won the National League Cy Young award after dominating the opposition. He is still unsigned in MLB free agency, though. Snell was previously connected to the Yankees, but according to Brendan Kuty of The Athletic, a new source indicates that New York will not sign the seasoned left-hander.

According to reports, Snell is looking for a short-term contract with opt-outs that would increase his yearly pay. A short-term contract with Snell would have a big influence on the Yankees, who are currently dealing with luxury tax issues. The Yankees are apparently willing to give Clarke Schmidt another opportunity to start in the rotation with Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, Nestor Cortes, and Marcus Stroman.

What location will Snell sign? It has lately been suggested that the Los Angeles Angels could be a possibility. There’s also the San Francisco Giants to be aware of.

But like the Yankees, a lot of organizations have been reluctant to extend a contract to Snell.

According to MLB insider Ken Rosenthal, teams’ reluctance to sign Snell could possibly be influenced by his choice to turn down the San Diego Padres’ qualifying offer. In an interview with Foul Territory, Rosenthal said that teams run the danger of losing Snell after one season and a prospect if he accepts a short-term contract with an opt-out since they are unable to extend a qualifying offer to him.
