NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A reliable source informed The Associated Press on Monday that the Tennessee Titans have reached an agreement to bring on board Brian Callahan, currently the offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals, as their new head coach.

The individual, speaking on the condition of anonymity as the deal was yet to be finalized, revealed that Callahan would be taking over the position previously held by Mike Vrabel, who was dismissed on January 9 after six seasons.

At 39 years old, Callahan, who virtually interviewed with the Titans on January 12 as the first of 10 candidates, proceeded to an in-person interview on Monday, leading to the decision to hire him, according to the same source.

This move follows the NFL’s recent allowance of in-person interviews for current league employees, which began on the day after the divisional playoff round.

Callahan, marking the third coach appointment this month, follows Jerod Mayo, who was promoted by the Patriots, and Antonio Pierce, who was elevated by the Raiders.

Boasting 14 years of NFL experience, Callahan has served as the Bengals’ offensive coordinator since 2019, notably contributing to the development of quarterback Joe Burrow. His coaching expertise will now extend to working with Will Levis, the quarterback selected by Tennessee as the 33rd overall pick last April.

It’s worth noting that Callahan was part of the Bengals coaching staff when they surprised the top-seeded Titans in the 2021 playoffs, ultimately advancing to the Super Bowl, where they faced defeat against the Los Angeles Rams.

The son of former Raiders coach Bill Callahan, Brian has been a sought-after candidate in recent head coaching searches, having interviewed with multiple teams last year before choosing to remain in Cincinnati. This month, he also interviewed with the Los Angeles Chargers.
