REPORT: Baltimore Orioles’ New Ace May Receive A Long-Term Extension

The newly acquired ace of the Baltimore Orioles might sign a long-term contract with them.

Over the course of the upcoming seasons, the Baltimore Orioles will need to work out some extensions. Although Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson have a few more seasons remaining as free agents, it would be in the Orioles’ best interest to sign them to long-term contracts.

Baltimore also needs to remember that Jackson Holliday is expected to sign a big extension soon.

The Orioles committed to the young talent and acquired Corbin Burnes after they showed that they belonged a little sooner than anticipated.

At the conclusion of the 2024 season, the former Cy Young Award winner will be free to sign with another team. It is anticipated that he will elevate this team and establish them as genuine contenders for the World Series.

It makes too much sense to agree to an extension before Burnes enters free agency if that turns out to be the case during the regular season and it becomes evident that he is well-liked in the clubhouse.

Allowing him to hit the open market where teams like the New York Yankees, New York Mets, and others can attempt to sign him only makes it tougher for the Orioles.

According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, he is a contender for a long-term extension.

It is best to agree to a deal as soon as possible because the price tags will be high regardless of when they sign him. Two of the best prospects in a strong farm system, Joey Ortiz and DL Hall, were also traded by Baltimore. When they traded for the Milwaukee Brewers, the front office had to have felt somewhat confident that they could extend him.
