It’s said that Indianapolis has identified its next defensive line coach.

Charlie Partridge of the University of Pittsburgh is anticipated to be hired by the Indianapolis Colts as their next defensive line coach, according to FootballScoop:

Over the past few years, Partridge has been recognized as one of college football’s best defensive line coaches while serving in the same capacity at the University of Pittsburgh.

Before taking on the role of defensive line coach for Pittsburgh, Partridge served as the school’s assistant head coach, according to Zach Barnett of FootballScoops. Partridge joined the Pittsburgh staff in 2017. In addition, Barnett points out that Partridge has been FootballScoops’ Defensive Line Coach of the Year in 2020 and 2022, respectively, over the award’s 16-year existence.

Nate Ollie was the defensive line coach for the Colts for the previous two seasons, but the team decided not to extend his contract. That was true even though the Colts this past season set a franchise record with 51.0 total team sacks.

Having said that, the Colts have made significant investments in their defensive line group and probably want to see increased individual effectiveness, particularly from outside edge rushers. In order to better support him inside, Pro Bowler DeForest Bucker needs more reliable outside pass pressure. Bucker is still a potent inside pass rusher.
