Meirov reports that veteran quarterback Kyle Allen has also signed with the Steelers. After acquiring former Chicago Bears first-round pick Justin Fields and signing veteran star Russell Wilson, the Steelers added Allen as their third new quarterback this offseason.

In order to secure a spot on the 53-man roster, Allen and Lowry will probably need to battle it out during training camp. They will be up against defensive linemen like Larry Ogunjobi, Cameron Heyward, Keeanu Benton, and others.

NFL Career
Despite never being a household name, Lowry has had a pretty good NFL career.

After high school, Lowry, a former 3-star recruit from Rockford, Illinois, committed to play for the Northwestern Wildcats and decided to stay in the state. During his four years in the program, he recorded 13 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, and 5 pass breakups in his senior year of 2015, which earned him a spot on the second team of the Big Ten.

Lowry spent his first seven NFL seasons with the Packers, who selected him in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL draft thanks to his impressive senior season. The Northwestern alumnus even performed well enough during his first contract to secure a $20 million, three-year extension in 2019.

Over the course of seven seasons, Green Bay has amassed 15.5 sacks, 16 pass breakups, an interception, and 1 defensive touchdown. Lowry signed a two-year contract with the team’s rival, the Minnesota Vikings, after the 2022 season.

Following a lackluster 2023 campaign that resulted in Lowry being placed on injured reserve, the 29-year-old was freed this summer. Luckily for him, the Steelers extended their offer to him to continue his NFL career quickly.

Jonathan Owens and Aaron Jones New Places as well
This offseason, Lowry is not the first former Packers player to go on. Indeed, for the 2024 campaign, a number of players from the Green Bay squad from the previous year have joined division opponents.

The most well-known player for an NFC North is Aaron Jones.

competitor. The Packers cut Jones in favor of free agency running back Josh Jacobs, ending their relationship with one of the greatest rushers in team history. Soon after, Jones made up his mind about his next team and signed a one-year contract with the Vikings.

It’s not unusual for former Packers players to go with rival teams in their division, but Jones’ departure will be felt deeply by supporters as 2024 approaches.

Jonathan Owens, a former safety with the Packers, signed a new deal with the Chicago Bears in the meanwhile. Owens, who married Olympic gymnast Simone Biles, was a player for the Packers for just one season. 84 total tackles, three pass breakups, and one forced fumble were his season totals.

With so much depth in Chicago’s starting lineup, Owens will find it difficult to break through.

within their secondary. The Bears also signed former All-Pro safety Kevin Byard to a two-year contract worth up to $15 million, in addition to former second-round pick Jaquan Brisker.
