Following a tough season marked by numerous injuries and position changes in 2023, head coach Joey McGuire of the Red Raiders has entirely redesigned the offensive line.

The Red Raiders made major changes at what is maybe their most vital position group going into the upcoming season, from player personnel to the coach.

Joey McGuire’s staff will be led by former Washington State offensive line coach and Kliff Kingsbury assistant Clay McGuire, who will replace Stephen Hamby. Even though Clay has strong ties to Texas Tech, the McGuires are unrelated.

With a renewed focus on keeping Tahj Brooks and Behren Morton healthy and productive in 2024, Tech’s new offensive line coach will try to get the reorganized squad to click up front.

The 2024 season brings significant changes to the offensive line of the Texas Tech football team. Key returner Caleb Rogers, a versatile player with experience at tackle, is expected to transition to center or guard following the departure of several key players, including Monroe Mills, Dennis Wilburn, Cole Spencer, and Rusty Staats.

To fill the gaps left by these losses, Texas Tech has brought in a wealth of talent from the transfer portal. Vinny Scuiry and Davion Carter, two standout guards, have joined the team, along with tackles Maurice Rodriques and Sterling Porcher.

The biggest question heading into the 2024 season is how this revamped offensive line will come together by August 31st. Head coach Joey McGuire anticipates Rogers moving inside to play center or guard, while Rodriques and Porcher are likely candidates to take over at tackle.

The addition of talented transfers such as Scuiry and Carter bodes well for Texas Tech’s offensive line prospects in 2024. These players bring experience and skill to the team, offering hope for improvement over the previous season.

Overall, the infusion of transfer talent presents an opportunity for Texas Tech’s offensive line to elevate its performance in the upcoming season. With competition expected during spring and fall camps, the team looks poised to build a strong unit capable of supporting the offense effectively.

In 2024, the Texas Tech football team faces both excitement and uncertainty surrounding its offensive line. The addition of standout talent like Maurice Rodriques highlights the potential for improvement in this crucial area. Rodriques’ decision to choose Texas Tech over prestigious programs like USC, UCLA, and Georgia signals a significant win for the Red Raiders and underscores the talent they’ve been able to attract.

However, despite the infusion of talent, there are lingering questions about how well the offensive line will gel under the leadership of Clay McGuire. As the team transitions to Joey McGuire’s third season as head coach, there’s a daunting task ahead to assemble a unit capable of excelling in both run blocking and pass protection.

While the talent level may have been upgraded, the challenge lies in finding the right combination of players and schemes to maximize their potential. The success of the offensive line will be critical to the team’s overall performance in the 2024 season.

Overall, Texas Tech fans can remain cautiously optimistic about the potential of the offensive line, given the talent brought in during the offseason. However, much will depend on how well the coaching staff can develop and integrate these new pieces into a cohesive unit.
