Since Jim Ratcliffe invested in the team, Manchester United has been searching for fresh people to join its sporting hierarchy. Director of Southampton Wilcox is currently being considered.

The 52-year-old was acquired by the Saints from Manchester City in 2023, after serving as academy director for a considerable amount of time. He oversaw Russell Martin’s appointment to the Championship club and other noteworthy transfers, including additional transactions with his previous team.

According to The Athletic, Wilcox is set to join Manchester United at Old Trafford as they “work on a deal.” He’s looking for a post where he would answer to a sports director; Dan Ashworth of Newcastle United is the person he wants to fill that role with.
Although the Red Devils have not yet reached out to Southampton, Wilcox is informed of their interest, it is said.

It will be intriguing to see how things turn out, as Manchester United is preparing a move for Wilcox. Although a deal is being worked on and there is significant interest, Southampton may find it difficult to retain their director of football.

Saints supporters should take comfort in the knowledge that the team should have a solid backup plan in place. As far as hiring and boardroom management go, the candidates for promotions appear to be completely out of touch with reality. That ought to facilitate an easy and quick search for a replacement in the event that Wilcox moves on.

When it comes to their attempt to restructure the club hierarchy, Manchester United is clearly serious, and it appears that Ratcliffe and company have recently set their sights on a major player at Southampton.
