Sunderland 'set Jack Clarke asking price amid Burnley, West Ham interest'

Sunderland are reportedly prepared to sell Jack Clarke for £20m during this summer’s transfer window, amid interest from Burnley and West Ham United.

Jack Clarke, the 23-year-old standout performer for Sunderland in the Championship this season, has been pivotal for the team, netting 15 goals and providing four assists in 33 matches in the second tier.

Despite Clarke’s impressive contributions, Sunderland has experienced a setback in their pursuit of a top-six finish, suffering three consecutive defeats, including a loss to Swansea City over the weekend.

In the match against Swansea City, a first-half brace from Ronald Pereira secured a victory for the Swans, leaving Sunderland trailing eight points behind sixth-placed Hull City in the Championship standings.

Recent reports from Football Insider suggest that Clarke is hopeful of securing a move away from the Stadium of Light ahead of the 2024-25 season, indicating a desire for a new challenge or potentially seeking opportunities at a higher level.

It appears that Sunderland’s chances of retaining Jack Clarke’s services hinge on their ability to secure promotion to the Premier League. The team’s recent form, winning just one of their last five Championship matches, coupled with a managerial change, has added to the uncertainty surrounding Clarke’s future at the club.

Reportedly, Premier League clubs West Ham, Crystal Palace, and Burnley are all interested in acquiring Clarke’s services during the summer transfer window. Crystal Palace, managed by Oliver Glasner, has developed a reputation for nurturing talent from the English Football League (EFL), with notable examples being Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise, who have become key first-team players.

Last summer, Vincent Kompany’s Burnley reportedly made a £15 million bid for Jack Clarke, but Sunderland was determined to keep hold of the talented winger. The battle for Clarke’s signature continued into the January transfer window, with Serie A club Lazio reportedly making a £14 million offer for him.

Clarke is believed to be open to a transfer if Sunderland fails to secure promotion from the Championship under manager Mike Dodds this season. As Sunderland aims to avoid a fourth consecutive loss in the second tier, Clarke and his teammates will face Norwich City, who are vying for a top-six spot, on Saturday afternoon.
