By the time Nebraska football coach Matt Rhule and the players report for training camp in August, Trev Alberts, the athletic director, anticipates that the new football administration facility will be completely operational.

Modern recovery pools and a newly designed locker room that links to the Tunnel Walk experience are presently used by the Huskers. However, some parts of the $165 million, unnamed complex are still under construction. One such part is the glass-enclosed weight room, which is just a short distance from NU’s practice field.

“When you build a house you’re better off waiting until you get the thing done,” Alberts said. “It isn’t ready to move in. There’s certain dates that it’s supposed to deliver. I’m just mentally telling myself, ‘let’s just get through this semester and into the summer.’ Prior to the start of fall camp, everything will be done.”

In this case, “everything” includes all the areas exclusive to football players — coaches’ offices, reception spaces, meeting halls and, of course, the weight room, which at a projected 32,000 square feet would be among the largest in college football.
