Dallas Cowboys star tackle Tyron Smith is set to embark on a new chapter in his NFL career, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. After spending his entire 13-season career with the Cowboys, Smith is now headed to the New York Jets. The two-time All-Pro has agreed to a one-year contract that could potentially earn him up to $20 million with incentives.

Hypothetical' Deal Sees Cowboys Acquire RB Derrick Henry

Schefter tweeted, “Eight-time Pro Bowl OT Tyron Smith intends to sign with the New York Jets… The 33-year-old Smith is expected to go from protecting Dak Prescott to protecting Aaron Rodgers.”

According to sources, the deal includes $6.5 million guaranteed for Smith, with the possibility of earning an additional $13.5 million based on incentives, as shared by Mike Garafolo.

Rumors of Smith’s departure from Dallas had been circulating since the NFL combine, and this move confirms that the Cowboys won’t be retaining him. Despite Smith’s history of injuries, the Jets were intrigued by his potential contributions.

While Smith expressed some disappointment about leaving Dallas, he emphasized his excitement about joining the Jets and protecting quarterback Aaron Rodgers. He acknowledged that despite his desire to stay in Dallas, he understands the business aspect of the NFL.

This transition marks the end of Smith’s tenure with the Cowboys, where he had previously signed a substantial contract. Now, he looks forward to a new challenge with the Jets, aiming to make a significant impact on the team’s success.
