Raheem Morris, the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams, was just hired as the team’s new head coach and left to join the Atlanta Falcons. And now the Rams are once again considering the player Morris replaced.

The Rams have scheduled a Wednesday interview with former Chargers head coach and Rams defensive coordinator Brandon Staley, per NFL source Ian Rapoport. The Rams’ defense excelled in the 2020 season under Staley’s direction, solidifying his status as one of the NFL’s best defensive minds. His team also concluded the season ranked first in the league in total defense. He was appointed as the Los Angeles Chargers’ head coach for the 2021 season as a result of his performance with the Rams. Later that summer, Morris took Staley’s place as the defensive coordinator for the Rams.

In the midst of his third season with the team, Staley—who had served as defensive coordinator for the Rams before joining the Chargers—was let go. Following a humiliating loss to the Raiders on Thursday Night Football, in which Easton Stick replaced injured quarterback Justin Herbert at quarterback, this decision was made.

Despite this, he has a solid track record with the Rams, so returning to Los Angeles would be the most comfortable option for the 41-year-old.
