Tre’Quan Smith, a former wide receiver for the New Orleans Saints, has joined the Detroit Lions, an NFL team.

In late September, the Saints activated Smith’s injured reserve, allowing the UCF product to sign a contract with the Denver Broncos and play alongside Sean Payton.

Mike Klis of Denver’s 9News reported on Wednesday that Smith had agreed to a futures deal with the Lions.

Smith, who was picked by the Saints in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft, spent all but one game during 2023 season on the Denver practice squad, failing to register catch.

With the Saints, Smith caught 131 passes for 1,764 yards and 18 touchdowns in five seasons. 2020 was his greatest season, catching 34 catches for 448 yards and four touchdowns.

Smith is known for being a receiver who doesn’t mind participating in the ground game and contributing to effective blocking.

Smith will attempt to catch the eye of a coaching staff in Detroit that is well aware of his potential. Dan Campbell, the head coach of the Lions, spent 2016–20 as the Saints’ tight ends coach and associate head coach.
