Coach Jason Demetriou of the South Sydney Rabbitohs has announced that Tyrone Munro and Tevita Tatola may have to miss time due to injuries they sustained during the team’s Saturday night loss to the Cronulla Sharks.
During the match, South Sydney lost three players, adding to their already growing list of injuries and suspensions that kept them out of the game entirely. Latrell Mitchell, the fullback, is on that list. He was suspended for two more games after elbowing Shaun Johnson last weekend.
Cameron Murray joined Tatola and Munro on the bench for the loss to Cronulla, which according to sources might have been Demetriou’s final game in charge if South Sydney failed to secure a win after their terrible start to the campaign.
Prior to halftime, Murray was struck in the head by Cronulla winger Sione Katoa, who has now been cited by the match review committee. If Murray loses his case, he will be suspended for one week and may enter an early guilty plea.
Nevertheless, Demetriou stated that after a bye, the lock forward should be able to play in South Sydney’s difficult upcoming away game against the Melbourne Storm.
“I think Cam [Cameron Murray] is a minor head knock, so with the bye week, he should be sweet with the 11-day protocol,” Demetriou stated in his news conference following the game.
Demetriou revealed that Munro is experiencing a collarbone issue, while Tatola has sustained what appears to be a broken foot.
“I believe Junior [Tevita Tatola] may have a broken foot, so X-rays will be necessary. Tyrone Munro, or Ty, is a collarbone. To find out if he has hurt his collarbone once more, he will need to have an X-ray taken, the coach stated.
Tatola has been among South Sydney’s best in recent years, and Munro, who had an injury late in the preseason, made his NRL debut this season against Cronulla.
