For the most part of the season, Rob Dickie has been a constant at the center of Bristol City’s defense.

Rob Dickie, the center back for Bristol City, was left out of the squad for the trip to Sunderland, and it is understood that he will be sidelined for approximately ten days due to a calf injury.

Dickie, who has started the last 37 league and cup games, is missing his first game since August. Haydon Roberts will be Zak Vyner’s teammate at the Stadium of Light.

Since joining from QPR last summer, Dickie has been City’s most dependable player during the 2023–24 campaign. He is a member of a defense that is fourth in the Championship for fewest goals allowed and is the front-runner to win Player of the Season when it is announced later this month.

Head coach Liam Manning stated, “Rob got a kick to the calf away at Plymouth on Monday so unfortunately he’s in a little bit of pain.” “It’s nothing major or serious, but it will keep him out of the game for a week or two.” Although disappointing, it also presents a chance for someone else.”

With Rob Atkinson sidelined until the summer owing to hamstring troubles after recovering from an ACL injury, and Kal Naismith’s health uncertain due to a calf ailment that has kept the Scot from playing since November 29, City will be shorthanded at center-back for the final stretch of the season due to Dickie’s absence.

Vyner is the only specialist center-back the Robins have left until Dickie recovers, which is probably for the trip to Norwich City on April 20. However, Roberts has consistently stated that his best position is in the middle of defense, and he has played left of a three for City rather than in the back four, which is what will happen at the Stadium of Light.

While Manning has been in charge, Jamie Knight-Lebel has been a constant in the matchday squad, but he has only played 54 minutes of football. This presents an opportunity for the Canada Under-20 international to get more playing experience.

Max O’Leary; George Tanner, Zak Vyner, Haydon Roberts, Cam Pring; Matty James, Jason Knight; Mark Sykes, Scott Twine, Anis Mehmeti; Nahki Wells are the Bristol City XI players against Sunderland (4-2-3-1).
