The captain, Connor Rozee, has talked about what he expects from this season and the impressive match simulation performance of Mitch Georgiades.

Mitch Georgiades returned to action during last Friday night’s match simulation against the Crows, which pleased PORT ADELAIDE captain Connor Rozee, who noted that the high-flying forward adds a unique element to the team’s offensive.

Georgiades, who has been out with a long-term knee ailment, entered the game in the fourth of six periods and finished with three goals.

When asked about Georgiades’ performance at the yearly AFL Captain’s Day in Melbourne, Rozee responded that the West Australian was missed the previous season and might be a valuable component for the team in 2024.

Connor Rozee on donning the #1 jersey as the captain of Port Adelaide in 2024:

It has a somewhat lighter feel than number 20. However, I’m starting to grow used to it. That comes with a little amount of pressure at Port Adelaide, but I’m excited about it and can’t wait for the season to start.

It’s probably just the typical things that come with working at a job, like having difficult talks and dealing with people’s expectations of you, that kind of thing. I suppose I just have to accept that and keep trying to be the greatest player and person I can be for my football team.

Connor Rozee on the advice he received from Ken Hinkley upon taking on the captaincy:

“Kenny is pushing me to really try and lead from the front in pre-season and drive the boys with our standards. So, I think we’ve got a great group that trains hard, but (he’s) sort of pushing me to come out of my shell a bit more and really drive that. It’s been a little bit of a challenge, but I’m getting there slowly.”

Regarding what Connor Rozee anticipates for Port Adelaide in 2024:

“We have some internal standards. Making the top four helps us achieve our goal of winning a premiership, so yes, I believe that if we get off to a good start—which is what we intend to do—we should be back at the top of the table.

Connor Rozee on Mitch Georgiades’ three-goal effort in Friday night’s pre-season match simulation:

“We’ve missed Mitch a fair bit in our team last year and I think he’ll be a great asset for us going forward as he provides something just a little bit different that we probably don’t have in our forward line. It was great to see him have a really good hit-out, and I’m sure he’ll be back in our lineup sooner rather than later.”
