SAD NEWS: Novak Djokovic Reveals Details Of Knee Problem

Even though he defeated Francisco Cerundolo in five sets, Novak Djokovic was dissatisfied with the court conditions.

Novak Djokovic has admitted that he has been dealing with a knee injury for the past several weeks as he prepares for his 18th Roland Garros quarterfinal. The world number one is through to the last eight at Roland Garros after a five-set thriller against Francisco Cerundolo. Djokovic had to come back from two sets to one and a break down to progress in a four and a half hour drama.

The result means the reigning champion will face Casper Ruud in a replay of last year’s final. However, it was not all good news for Djokovic, as it was clear during the match that he was suffering from a knee injury.

The Serb’s late-night five-set match against Lorenzo Musetti in the previous round could have contributed to the situation. It turns out that isn’t the case, and Djokovic stated he has been suffering from an issue for the last two weeks. “Well, for the last couple of weeks, I’ve had some little discomfort in my right knee, but I haven’t had any injuries that I’m concerned about. “I was playing a few tournaments with it and had no problems until today,” Djokovic explained in his post-match press conference.

Of course, the late finish a few nights before hampered my sleeping, biorhythm, and recovery, but I felt terrific going into the match, as good as I could given the circumstances, and played a great first set. Then, in the third game of the second set, I slipped and fell, which was one of several occurrences today. It had an effect on the knee.

“I received the meds, and once the third set was complete, I requested additional medications, which I received. That was the maximum amount that set in, according to the doctor, after 30 to 45 minutes, which was about the time I started to feel better at the end of the fourth day. I began to sense fewer constraints in my movement. The fifth set was essentially pain-free, which is fantastic. However, the meds’ effects will not stay long, so we’ll see.
