Novak Djokovic’s ongoing participation in the 2024 French Open now depends on a vital MRI scan set for Tuesday, June 4, in Paris, after which the World No. 1 will decide whether to play in the quarterfinals. Djokovic will face Casper Ruud in the last eight, and he is three victories away from retaining his Roland Garros crown this year.

On Monday, June 3, the Serb faced Francisco Cerundolo in the fourth round of the French Open, where he struggled for 4.5 hours before defeating the Argentine in a five-setter. It was the second five-set marathon he had to endure in Paris, as Lorenzo Musetti pushed the 24-time Grand Slam champion to his limit in the third round.Novak Djokovic showed symptoms of physical struggle against Cerundolo, frequently failing to chase for balls on which he would normally pounce. During the last set, he also had a terrible fall on playing Philippe-Chartrier, leaving him seething over Roland Garros’ playing conditions.

During his post-game news conference, the 37-year-old disclosed that he had been experiencing soreness in his right knee and was unsure whether he would be able to play in his next match. “I’m not sure what will happen tomorrow or after tomorrow, if I’ll be able to step out on the court and play, but I hope so. Let us see what occurs. I’ve been experiencing some soreness in my right knee for the past few weeks, but I haven’t had any injuries that would cause me concern. “I was playing a few tournaments with it and had no problems until today,” Novak Djokovic explained.

“It definitely disrupted me during play. For two-and-a-half sets, I didn’t want to stay in the rally for long. To be honest, I wasn’t sure whether I should continue or not,” he said. Now, it has been revealed that the World No. 1 has decided to have a closer look at the degree of his injuries before deciding on his next course of action.
