SAD NEWS: Rams major free agent target is off of the market

It was reported over the weekend that the Los Angeles Rams were interested in signing Bucs star Mike Evans, so they might be looking to add a well-known wide receiver to the offense this summer, according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini. Rome Odunze, a Washington draft prospect who is predicted to be selected in the top ten in April, was also met.

How much do the Rams want to add Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua to their receiver room?

To stay in Tampa Bay, Evans agreed to a two-year, $52 million contract on Monday, with a $35 million guarantee. However, Evans’s interest from the Rams suggests that they might be looking to add a large wide receiver this offseason. The Rams appear to be dissatisfied at wide receiver when you take into account the Evans report and the reported interest in Odunze.

Wide receiver Demarcus Robinson was re-signed by the Rams earlier in the offseason to a one-year deal for up to $5 million. But after signing his contract, it’s probable that the organization views him more as the offense’s fourth wide receiver rather than the expected number three.

The Rams’ most productive wide receiver from the previous campaign was Puka Nacua, and Cooper Kupp is coming off a season marred by injuries. Not to mention, Kupp and Nacua share a lot of stylistic similarities. It’s plausible that the Rams want to increase the receiving room’s versatility in addition to adding some size on the outside. In addition, it provides the Rams a chance to choose a player similar to Odunze in the draft, which would leave them behind Kupp.

The Rams will need to adjust their strategy now that Evans is sidelined. In the free agent market, two names to watch are Calvin Ridley and Michael Pittman.
