The Los Angeles Rams, despite having Cooper Kupp, Puka Nacua, and recently re-signing Demarcus Robinson, were still looking to bolster their wide receiver depth. Reports indicated they had their sights set on Mike Evans.
According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Evans was a target for the Rams in free agency before he opted to extend his contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If Evans had become available, the Rams were prepared to engage in a potential bidding war to secure his services.
However, Evans ultimately chose to remain with the Buccaneers, signing a two-year, $52 million deal with $35 million guaranteed. This decision was influenced by his exceptional performance over the years, consistently surpassing 1,000 receiving yards in each of his ten NFL seasons.
In the 2023 season, Evans demonstrated his prowess with 79 receptions, 1,255 receiving yards, and a league-leading 13 touchdowns in 17 regular-season games. He continued his impressive performance in the postseason with 11 receptions for 195 yards and a touchdown in two playoff games.
Evans holds the record for the most receiving yards in Buccaneers history, making him an appealing target for the Rams. While the prospect of pairing him with Kupp and Nacua was enticing, the Rams may now need to explore alternative options in free agency or the upcoming NFL Draft.
If the Rams opt for the draft, they might consider trading up to acquire prospects like Malik Nabers, Rome Odunze, or Brian Thomas Jr., given their current position with the No. 19 pick.
Alternatively, the Los Angeles Rams could explore the option of re-signing Odell Beckham Jr. or consider pursuing Calvin Ridley, who is also a free agent.
