Two football supporters, Mark Turner, aged 44, and Callum Lawton, aged 28, from Stoke City, have been handed three-year bans from all football grounds due to their involvement in what has been termed as “tragedy chanting” directed towards opposing fans.

The incident occurred following a match at Leeds United’s Elland Road stadium, where both Turner and Lawton were charged with causing harassment, alarm, or distress. According to a spokesperson from West Yorkshire Police, the two visiting fans were identified in the West Stand Upper away supporters’ section, situated directly above the home fans. They were observed engaging in “tragedy chanting” related to Leeds United fans who tragically lost their lives in Istanbul in 2000.

This incident pertains to the deaths of Leeds fans Kevin Speight and Chris Loftus, who were fatally stabbed in Istanbul ahead of a match against Galatasaray in 2000.

Having pleaded guilty to the charges, Turner and Lawton were each issued three-year football banning orders as a consequence of their actions.
