Mason Cotcher, a former trialist for Leeds United who reportedly left an impression on Mikel Arteta at Arsenal, has recently scored for Ipswich Town’s Under-21s, as reported by the East Anglian Daily Times.

According to the report dated April 24, the 17-year-old Cotcher, who appeared as a substitute, secured the second goal in a 2-0 triumph over Wigan on April 23.

Having showcased his skills with Sunderland’s Under-18s last season, Cotcher declined a professional contract offer from the club in September. Since then, he has undergone trials at Arsenal, where he even had the opportunity to train with the first team due to the impression he made, as well as at Manchester United and Leeds before joining Ipswich.

If any of these clubs, or others like Rangers or Brighton, who have also shown interest in him, decide to sign him, Sunderland would be entitled to compensation, which might be determined through a tribunal if an agreement cannot be reached.

Given Cotcher’s increasing reputation following trials at prominent clubs, especially his time at Arsenal in November, where Arteta saw significant potential, it seems he has caught the eye of many. Cotcher’s scoring record, with nine goals in 1,279 minutes in the Under-18 Premier League as a 16-year-old and three goals this season (one in two appearances for Arsenal and two in three outings for Leeds), has garnered attention, leading to links with Rangers and Brighton.

Although Leeds already possesses a strong contingent of young strikers like Mateo Joseph, Joe Gelhardt, and Sonny Perkins, if the club believes in Cotcher’s promise, they might consider pursuing him, especially since the acquisition cost would likely be minimal.

On another note related to Leeds, a Premier League regular has been advised to consider a move to Elland Road, as he could be an ideal fit for Daniel Farke’s team.
