With 13 games remaining before their match against the Philadelphia Flyers on March 21, the Carolina Hurricanes are trailing the New York Rangers by two points, boasting a record of 43-20-6. Following a successful 3-0-0 road trip, they’re currently on a four-game winning streak as they strive for their third consecutive Metro Division title.

Seth Jarvis, in his third NHL season, is heating up just in time for the playoffs. Having a career year, Jarvis is making history with his exceptional performance. He has already surpassed his previous bests in goals (25), assists (30), and points (55) with 13 games still to play. At 22 years old, he’s on the verge of achieving his first 30-goal – 60-point season. Although trailing team leader Sebastian Aho in points, Jarvis is making significant contributions, including a recent streak of six goals in six games, with a notable four-game goal streak.

This remarkable season highlights Jarvis’s offensive improvement under the guidance of head coach Rod Brind’Amour and his staff, suggesting that a long-term contract extension may be in order. As a restricted free agent (RFA) with arbitration rights at the end of this season, discussions about Jarvis’s next contract are underway. While a bridge deal is a possibility, offering Jarvis a longer-term contract could be advantageous, potentially securing his talents for the Hurricanes’ future success.

Locking him up long-term, perhaps for seven or eight years, could provide stability for the Carolina Hurricanes and facilitate team-building efforts around him for several seasons. A proposed contract of seven years, totaling $49 million with an average annual value (AAV) of $7 million, could be a suitable option. This significant pay increase would secure Jarvis’s presence with the Hurricanes until at least age 29, ensuring his continued contributions to the team’s success.

Given the exceptional season he’s having, Jarvis has established himself as a standout player worthy of a substantial salary increase. With 13 games remaining, there’s every expectation that the 22-year-old from Winnipeg, Manitoba, will continue to excel and solidify his place as a key asset for the Hurricanes.
