We compiled all of Sheffield Wednesday’s most recent transfer news.

Sheffield Wednesday’s summer is going to be exciting because they made it through the Championship.

After a terrible start to the season under Xisco Munoz, the Owls appeared doomed to return to League One right away. However, they accomplished safety with a stunning comeback under Danny Rohl, finishing 20th in the standings.

Championship standings 2023/24
Team P GD Pts
17 Stoke City 46 -11 56
18 QPR 46 -11 56
19 Blackburn Rovers 46 -14 53
20 Sheffield Wednesday 46 -24 53
21 Plymouth Argyle 46 -11 51
22 Birmingham City (R) 46 -15 50
23 Huddersfield Town (R) 46 -29 45
24 Rotherham United (R) 46 -52 27

There were fears among Wednesday supporters that the club would lose Rohl this summer, but the German signed a new long-term contract at Hillsborough last month, and it could be a busy few months as he looks to rebuild his squad.

Loanees James Beadle, Kristian Pedersen, Jeff Hendrick, Momo Diaby, Ian Poveda, Ike Ugbo, and Ashley Fletcher have returned to their parent clubs, while Ciaran Brennan, Reece James, George Byers, Tyreeq Bakinson, Juan Delgado and Lee Gregory have been released at the end of their contracts.

Liam Palmer and Barry Bannan have both signed new deals with the Owls, but Will Vaulks turned down the club’s contract offer to join newly-promoted Oxford United, and Cameron Dawson and Josh Windass have also reportedly decided against signing an extension.

Wednesday have brought in two new additions so far this summer, with goalkeeper Ben Hamer and defender Max Lowe arriving after their departures from Watford and Sheffield United respectively.

The transfer window is now officially open for business, and as speculation continues to gather pace, we rounded up all the latest Owls news.

Ex-Southampton man set to sign

Yan Valery up against Harry Kane in Southampton v Tottenham

According to The Star, Wednesday are working to complete the signing of Angers defender Yan Valery before the end of the week.

The Owls faced competition from Montpellier and Standard Liege for Valery, but they are set to win the race for his signature after agreeing a deal with Angers, with only the finer details still to be sorted.

Valery provided five assists in 37 appearances in all competitions for Angers this season to help them to promotion to the French top flight as they finished second in Ligue 2, and he is no stranger to English football having previously played for Southampton, where he worked with Wednesday boss Rohl, and Birmingham City.
