If Sheffield Wednesday moves for Duncan McGuire, they may have to contend with opposition from Torino, according to Tutto Mercato Web, who claims the striker has been contacted.

This summer, Sheffield Wednesday will be looking to add new players as Danny Rohl aims to bolster his squad in preparation for the upcoming campaign.

Under the German, the Owls pulled off a remarkable comeback to maintain their championship status. With their highly-regarded coach leading them, the attention now shifts to moving forward.

Many players have already been connected to a Hillsborough move, and American striker Duncan McGuire is rumored to have stayed on the club’s radar even after he pursued a January deal.

However, sources from the Italian publication Tutto Mercato Web now state Torino is vying for the 23-year-old.

The Serie A team is trying to strengthen their striking ranks, and they have gotten in touch with the possible Sheffield Wednesday transfer target. McGuire has notched six goals in 16 games this season and is set to spend this summer with the USA at the Olympics.

According to reports, Dejphon Chansiri, the owner of Sheffield Wednesday, plans to provide finances so that the team can acquire players for transfer costs this summer. It would not be shocking if money was spent to bring in a new talisman given the need for a striker.

McGuire is undoubtedly a possibility, but Torino’s fervor may make a deal difficult.

There are benefits to relocating to Hillsborough. In addition to learning from a good coach like Rohl, McGuire would get the opportunity to play in a highly competitive league with a straight path to the Premier League.

But there will also be a tremendous allure to playing top-tier football in Italy right away with Torino. Since McGuire’s contract expires at the end of this year, you have to think they’ll have more money on hand to outbid Wednesday as well.

A busy summer is coming up.

Sheffield Wednesday will be among the teams eager to complete some business ahead of schedule in order to get ready for the upcoming season when the transfer market officially opens on Friday.

Although Rohl guided the Owls through the January window, he has a wonderful opportunity to solidify his methods at Hillsborough by overhauling the team during the summer window and preseason.

With Rohl able to add more players of his own, there will be optimism that Wednesday can truly take off after witnessing what he accomplished when taking over another manager’s club.

It’s unclear how McGuire fits into their plans, but Torino appears to have made a play for the attacker quickly.
