This week, former Detroit Pistons draft pick Sekou Doumbouya has secured his next playing opportunity, signing with French basketball club Chorale Roanne Basket for the remainder of the current season, as reported by BasketNews.

Doumbouya entered the NBA scene in 2019 when he was drafted by the Pistons as the 15th overall pick, following various stints with teams in France. Making his debut at just 19 years old, Doumbouya logged significant playing time during his rookie season with the Pistons, appearing in 38 games and starting in a career-high 19 of them. He averaged six points per game while spending an average of 20 minutes on the court.

In his second season with the Pistons, Doumbouya played in 56 games, maintaining a similar scoring average while contributing in multiple statistical categories. However, he struggled with shooting efficiency, averaging just 38 percent from the field.

Following his tenure with the Pistons, Doumbouya was involved in several offseason trades, ultimately finding himself with the Los Angeles Lakers for the 2021-2022 season. However, his playing time with the Lakers was limited, with most of his appearances coming in the NBA G League with the South Bay Lakers.

Last season, Doumbouya played exclusively in the G League with the Delaware Blue Coats, an affiliate of the Philadelphia 76ers. Despite being part of the championship-winning squad, Doumbouya has not secured a new NBA contract, leading him to continue his basketball career overseas.

Expressing his excitement about joining Chorale Roanne Basket, Doumbouya emphasized his appreciation for the team’s atmosphere and chemistry, as well as his eagerness to contribute on the court.
