A six-year-old girl was raped by a Sheffield man multiple times, leading to his imprisonment.

After a five-day trial, Mark Hulley, 52, was found guilty of a total of 12 offenses, including five counts of rape. He was sentenced to 19 years in prison today, Tuesday, February 27.

The jury was told how Hulley, of Garland Close, began his horrifying ten-year ordeal of abuse in 1997, with multiple counts of rape and indecent assault against his victim. They learned that Hulley would bribe his victim with food, cash, and toys before abusing her.

The offender has multiple sexual offense convictions under his record, according to Detective Constable Blake Hull. The actual acts are terrifying. Yet starting when the girl was six years old, this man regularly committed them against her. She suffered silently for ten years before fearlessly coming forward.

“Although I am happy that the abuser has been brought to justice, I acknowledge that nothing we can do will change the past—a childhood that was horrifically destroyed. All I can hope for is that today’s result will help the victim in some way to start over, while acknowledging the abuse she endured.

Over the course of the court proceedings, the abuser vehemently refuted the accusations. He subjected this victim to a protracted trial and never once acknowledged his crimes.

“I want to express my gratitude to the victim for sharing her story with me and allowing me to undertake this investigation. The victim told me she was hoping that this would be the beginning of her discovering a better and more fulfilling way of life. I wish her all the best for the next phase of her life and I too share this hope.

After making an appearance at Sheffield Crown Court today, Hulley was found guilty of five counts of rape, four counts of indecent assault, one count of attempted rape, one count of assault by penetration, and one count of voyeurism.

He was given a sentence of 19 years in prison and one year of extended parole today. He must complete two thirds of his sentence before he is eligible to petition for parole.
