As negotiations on Paul Onuachu’s possible summer departure continue, Southampton has finally established a price for the player.

On the day of the January 2023 transfer deadline, Paul Onuachu and club record signing Kamaldeen Sulemana came at Southampton.

The strong Belgian attacker became well-known for scoring goals consistently while playing for Genk in the Belgian Pro League. He has scored 85 goals in 134 games for the team, and in the first half of the 2022–2023 season, he has amassed an incredible 16 goals in 19 games.

Paying £18 million for a player with that goal total at the time seemed like a wise move, but his time at St Mary’s quickly turned into a nightmare.

He made 11 appearances in the previous season in the Premier League and was demoted to the Championship after failing to score even once.

The 29-year-old left the South Coast in September of last year and is presently enjoying a successful loan spell at Turkish club Trabzonspor.

According to the source, the Championship team is asking €12 million (£10 million) for their flop striker, and the Turkish team is not willing to pay more than €10 million (£8 million).

Although it is said that the situation is “complicated” at the moment, allowing Onuachu to live out his desire of remaining in Turkey is ultimately beneficial for everyone involved—even if it means Southampton would have to absorb some of the losses.

The Saints have Onuachu has been a grave error, and they are still paying a heavy price for their dismal transfer window in January 2023, even though their summer sales have eased some of the pressure.

While it’s true that he hasn’t done enough to merit opportunities or an increase in pay, others argue that he hasn’t had enough time to establish himself in England.

Onuachu makes an incredible £47,000 a week, according to Capology, so if Russell Martin’s team choose to stay in the Championship, they’ll have to adjust their budget.

This entails saying goodbye to Sulemana, who arrived at St. Mary’s on the same day as Onuachu, for a small portion of the money they paid.
