The Brewers have added right-hander Kevin Herget to their MLB roster ahead of tonight’s game in Kansas City, while Janson Junk has been sent down to Triple-A Nashville. Jakob Junis has been moved from the 15-day to the 60-day injured list to make room on the 40-man roster. Additionally, Freddy Peralta will start serving his five-game suspension tonight for intentionally throwing at Rays outfielder Jose Siri last week, as determined by MLB. Players suspended for on-field violations cannot be replaced on the roster, so the Brewers will play with 25 men for the next few days.

Herget is back at American Family Field for his second stint this season after signing a minor league deal with Milwaukee during Spring Training. He had a brief tenure with the team in April, making six appearances for Triple-A Nashville, five of which were scoreless. Although he had one rough outing, allowing five runs, overall he’s been effective at keeping opponents off the scoreboard this season.

Despite his previous stint with the Brewers, Herget has yet to make his team debut. He’s previously pitched for the Rays and Reds, sporting a 5.74 ERA over 31 1/3 innings with a below-average strikeout rate. In Triple-A, he has a more average strikeout percentage and consistently demonstrates good control, with a low walk rate against both Triple-A and MLB hitters.

Jakob Junis has been sidelined since April 3 due to a shoulder impingement, with his 60-day IL stint backdated to his initial injury. He’s expected to be out until at least the beginning of June. During his rehab, he faced a scary moment when he was hit in the head by a fly-ball during batting practice, but fortunately, he avoided serious injury.

While he’s been lightly throwing recently, he still needs to build up his pitch count and undergo a minor league rehab assignment. Junis, who signed a $7 million free agent deal in the offseason, may transition to a bullpen role upon his return, as suggested by the Brewers.
