On Good Friday, the Tigers’ dismal home performance continued with a loss.

Steven Schumacher was all smiles as Stoke City defeated play-off contenders Hull City 2-0 on Good Friday to increase their chances of making it through the Championship.

Liam Rosenior’s City put on a poor performance, which gave Stoke the advantage. Josh Laurent scored an unmarked goal at the back post fifteen minutes from time, and Ki-Jana Hoever added the finishing touch in stoppage time to put the Potters five points clear of danger.

City, who have only triumphed once in 11 league games played at the MKM Stadium, fell six points outside of the top six as Norwich overcame a poor Plymouth team at Carrow Road.

Schumacher was impressed by Stoke’s ability to create 11 chances in the first half and two more in the second, despite Rosenior’s team failing to muster a single effort on goal for Daniel Iversen to handle.

He declared, “I thought we played well.” “I think we were the superior squad. I sensed we were almost there from the first whistle. We started the game quickly, applying pressure on Hull, and gradually gained the upper hand. We played really well in the first half, in my opinion—we just lacked a goal. We had a few opportunities. We had, I believe, eleven shots in the first half, all of them from within the box, and we were unable to convert any of them.

“We had to endure the storm for almost ten minutes during the second half. Hull got off to a great start in the second half. We anticipated that at halftime, Liam would make a few adjustments and try to make a minor adjustment, and the boys were cool and collected and followed the plan. After a while, we managed to achieve the objective of winning and finishing the game. It was a most enjoyable afternoon.

“I think the goalie was excellent. Daniel was positioned well. We discussed that a great deal. He was a good kicker. He didn’t seem to have a chance to salvage it. They didn’t seem to have a shot on target. Everyone did a great job blocking shots when it was necessary, defending the goal, and displaying quality when it counted.

“Since these are a top side, it was going to take a team effort, and that is what it was.” It was going to require perseverance because this is a difficult spot to visit.”
