Sunderland might have regretted passing on the opportunity to name the 36-year-old as head coach: Look at

With just ten games remaining and star player Jack Clarke sidelined, Sunderland’s fragile hopes of qualifying for the play-offs are probably gone after their recent home loss to Leicester City.

The Black Cats’ season, which held much promise, has fallen flat, and they now appear destined to finish in the middle of the league.

When the team fired Tony Mowbray on December 4th, when they were in ninth place and barely outside of the playoffs, this was very definitely not the idea. Sunderland hasn’t fared well under the new, younger manager who was supposed to lead the team to greater heights.

The club took a while to recruit a manager to replace Mowbray, and after being linked to several, they ultimately decided on former Rangers manager Michael Beale, which disappointed and irritated their fans.

The Swedish manager Kim Hellberg was one the team spoke with. In retrospect, Sunderland might have made a much better choice, and if the 36-year-old had been hired, the team might not be in their current predicament.Sunderland might be sorry that Kim Hellberg wasn’t appointed.
When it comes to establishing his reputation in the managerial field, Hellberg has learned his lessons the hard way.

After winning the league with Swedish fifth-tier team Kimstad Golf to start his career, he went on to Kuddby IF, where he was promoted twice in three years.

Before declaring in November that he would be leaving the club at the end of the season, he guided the latter to fifth place in the Swedish Allsvenskan the previous season.

This meant that when Sunderland fired Mowbray, Hellberg was a free agent. The Black Cats might feel that they lost out on Beale following his short-lived stint at the team, but it was clear from his job interview that he was interested in the position at the Stadium of Light.

Since then, Hellberg has joined Hammarby, a Swedish team, therefore Sunderland’s opportunity to appoint him has passed.Choosing a young, dynamic manager of Hellberg’s caliber would have been risky in retrospect, but there’s no reason he couldn’t have kept the team in the running for the play-offs.

Sunderland made a really poor decision in appointing Michael Beale.Beale’s tenure at Sunderland ranks highly among his less than stellar managerial stints.

When Beale’s arrival was revealed, Sunderland’s supporters were not very excited because the club had been linked to attractive stars on the continent like Hellberg and Will Still. To have an effect on Wearside, he needed results quickly, and he was let down by them. In his 12 league games in charge of the Black Cats, he lost six of them. To make matters worse, he lost the FA Cup to fierce rivals Newcastle United 3-0.

Sunderland supporters had also been left with a bad taste in their mouths by Mowbray’s exit, and Beale had always faced opposition from them.

The last straw for Beale at Sunderland, at least for the fans, came when he failed to shake hands with Trai Hume following the defender’s substitution in his last match. Although the former Sunderland manager claimed he didn’t witness the player extend his hand, many have speculated that it was a disrespectful gesture that highlighted his strained relationship with the team.

The club executives are under pressure to make the correct choice this time around as they hunt for a new manager once more. The club must feel guilty about not appointing Kim Hellberg. With 10 games left in the Championship season, everything could have been very different.
