If Sunderland chooses to go after Danny Rohl this summer, they may run into trouble.

With Mike Dodds stepping down at the end of the season, Sunderland is still searching the globe for their next manager.

Since replacing Michael Beale as temporary manager, the 37-year-old has had an extremely difficult time, with the Black Cats just winning once under his watch.

The team has allowed itself months to locate a suitable replacement, and Danny Rohl is one name that has been the subject of extensive recent reporting.

After taking Sheffield Wednesday to within a point of safety at the bottom of the Championship table, the German coach joined the team in October.

If Hillsborough gets demoted, it appears quite likely that Rohl will go, but even if he manages to keep them up, his future may still be in doubt.

A roadblock awaits Sunderland in Rohl’s pursuit.
The 34-year-old may be the perfect addition to Sunderland, but getting him to the Stadium of Light will not be easy.

Journalist Alan Nixon stated on his Patreon page that Sunderland is also thinking at Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl, although a significant transfer fee would be required.

Dahl would also like a staff of his own. Michael Beale, who joined alone but eventually desired his own people, was crippled by this problem and was fired shortly after.

Is Sunderland still going to go for it?
Due to the financial requirements, Sunderland is currently at a situation where they cannot afford to withdraw from races for a manager.

Kristjaan Speakman needs to make the next appointment as soon as possible, and if that means spending a little money that would see us reunited in the Premier League under a manager like Danny Rohl, then fine.

It’s likely that Will Still will be the same in that Paul Heckingbottom is the only one of interest who wouldn’t really cost a thing, while Kryil Louis-Dreyfus would undoubtedly have to open his checkbook.

Though I wouldn’t want us to bring Heckingbottom in just because we are complete cheapskates, I don’t believe he would be a horrible appointment either.

Rohl has a ton of managerial potential and would be a fantastic addition to the team. We should give him what he wants if he was interested in joining Sunderland because, given our quick downturn, I don’t think we are in a particularly powerful position.
