In the second round, the Texas Longhorns were defeated 78-74 by a hungry Kansas State Wildcats team, spoiling their chance to defend their Big 12 Conference Title.

Guard Tylor Perry of Kansas State led the team in scoring with 21 points, and he also made crucial free throws in the closing seconds to help the Wildcats overcome a 10-point deficit in the second half and eliminate the Longhorns from the conference tournament.

Guard Max Abmas of Texas led the team in scoring with 26 points and four assists, and Ithiel Horton put up one of his best performances in almost two months with 14 points on 6 of 9 shooting and five rebounds.

Regarding the NCAA Tournament, Texas is still expected to make it out of the 68 teams who will punch their ticket to compete in the tournament. Although Texas was not eliminated from the March Madness tournament, the Longhorns were kept from rising over their anticipated 8/9 seed line by the defeat.

It’s difficult to be ranked No. 8 or No. 9 because, even if you win your first game, you’ll probably play a No. 1 seed the following round.

The Longhorns are currently waiting to learn their fate. March 17 is Selection Sunday, while the First Four and First Round take place on March 19–20 and March 21–22, respectively.

On April 8, the NCAA Championship Game will mark the conclusion of the Big Dance. Right now, the UConn Huskies are the clear favorites to take home the trophy. In order to win the 2023 NCAA title, UConn defeated San Diego State 76-59 in the championship game last year. Florida is the latest team to win back-to-back championships in 2006 and 2007.
