Texas Tech shockingly adds to their losing streak after been trashed…

Over the weekend, the Texas Tech baseball team extended their losing streak in the Big 12 to eight games. Despite not securing any victories in their three-game series against Oklahoma State, the positive takeaway is that the streak stopped short of nine games, which was a possibility.

The Red Raiders suffered defeats of 16-4 and 9-3 on Friday and Saturday, respectively, putting them at risk of dropping out of tenth place in the conference standings, which would have meant missing the Big 12 Tournament. Fortunately, Sunday’s game was canceled due to rain, sparing the Red Raiders from potentially slipping further. As a result, Tech has secured a berth in the conference tournament, scheduled for May 21-25 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

Tech’s current record stands at 30-22 overall and 12-17 in league play, falling below the program’s usual standards over the past decade. This performance might not be sufficient to secure a spot in the NCAA Tournament. That’s why participation in the Big 12 Tournament holds significant importance for Tech.

Winning the tournament in Arlington would grant the Red Raiders an automatic NCAA Tournament bid, but even notching two or three quality wins could bolster their chances for an at-large bid. The team resumes play this week in Tempe, Arizona, taking on Arizona State on Thursday and facing UNLV and the Sun Devils in a double-header on Friday. Then, the focus shifts to Arlington, where Tech will battle to keep its tournament hopes alive in the following week.
