According to On3’s Justin Wells, Texas is the frontrunner to land four-star running back James Simon. Simon, ranked as the No. 9 running back in the 2025 class and the No. 4 player in Louisiana by On3 Industry Rankings, currently attends Calvary Baptist Academy in Shreveport, Louisiana. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) suggests that Simon’s top schools include LSU and Texas. Additionally, he has received offers from notable programs such as Notre Dame, Alabama, TCU, and several other Power 4 programs.

The Longhorns’ 2025 recruiting class is ranked No. 9 nationally and No. 4 in the SEC. Texas has already secured a commitment from four-star running back Rickey Stewart Jr. The class is highlighted by four-star EDGE Lance Jackson and four-star linebacker Elijah Barnes.

Simon had an impressive junior season, accumulating 1,600 rushing yards and 21 rushing touchdowns, earning him first-team All-State and All-District honors.

With Texas transitioning to the SEC this season, landing Simon could be pivotal in building a contender in the new conference. The Longhorns have maintained a strong recruiting streak, securing three consecutive Top 10 classes and potentially extending it to four.

Texas football boasts a history of producing elite NFL talent at the running back position, including Earl Campbell, Ricky Williams, Cedric Benson, and Jamaal Charles, among others.
