The 21-year-old claimed that the loss to Norwich City was his “worst game in a Sunderland shirt.”

One strange Sunderland player has drawn criticism for his performance from yesterday’s match against Norwich City.

After losing to Norwich City for the fourth time in a row this past weekend, Sunderland has only managed to accumulate four points from their previous six games.
The Black Cats appeared to be headed for a road point, but their play just wasn’t good enough to bring anything back to Wearside.

Knowing this, too, the Canaries finally put pressure on Sunderland’s shoddy defense, and Josh Sargent scored his eleventh goal of the season.

After making his first start since the opening day, Luis Hemir Semedo faced a lot of criticism, and Jenson Seelt and Luke O’Nien were also criticized for their contributions to the goal.

Trai Hume, on the other hand, has been informed that this was his “worst game.”

Although the 21-year-old has undoubtedly been among Sunderland’s top performers this season and has received little criticism, reporter Michael Graham wasn’t pleased with him this time.

“His worst game in a Sunderland shirt?,” Graham wrote in a piece for Sunderland Nation’s player ratings. Very likely, four.

Trai Hume is a dependable player who frequently stops the opposition’s nimble and cunning wingers. However, we truly suffer when the defender isn’t playing at his best; the loss to Newcastle United is one such instance.

In addition to putting on one of his poorest performances to date, the Northern Ireland international’s yellow card also prevented him from executing his signature slide tackles.

What went wrong in Norwich vs. Trai Hume?
Hume played the entire ninety minutes and made just one tackle. He also made two fouls, misdirected sixteen passes, lost possession twenty-one times, and won zero headers.

Though Mike Dodds has chosen to push him far forward and practically play him as a wing-back, with very little cover, it doesn’t feel like all his fault.

Running up and down the right wing and attempting to both defend and track back appears to have worn Hume out.

This is the result of Dodds’ foolish decision to play Callum Styles off the wing in the first place. Despite his erratic play this season, I would much prefer see Abdoullah Ba play out wide rather than relying on a defender and a midfielder to create opportunities.

Against Leicester, perhaps Dodds can turn things around, but it already feels like we are playing for nothing.
