As speculation over a summer transfer heats up, a forgotten Southampton man might never play for the team again.

Whether Southampton is promoted to the Premier League will determine how their summer business is handled, although certain first-team players are certain to leave.

£8m 'monster' may not play for Southampton again as summer talks set to 'intensify'

This season, striker Che Adams has been an essential component in Russell Martin’s promotion puzzle. However, his contract expires in June, and Wolves are leading the competition to sign him.

In addition, Southampton has a number of players on loan, including Duje Caleta-Car, Paul Onuachu, and Charly Alcaraz. All of these players could be sold in the summer, regardless of whether they manage to play in the top division.

At St. Mary’s, Caleta Car in particular is a forgotten man who spends this season on

on loan in Lyon.

It should come as no surprise that the Saints let him go in the summer, since the Croatian, who was once called a “absolute monster” by reporter Josh Bunting, rejoined Lyon in Ligue 1.

He has established himself as a mainstay in the center of their defense, making 17 appearances in the league and amassing some stellar defensive stats like seven clean sheets, 3.6 clearances, and 3.2 balls retrieved per contest.

While his future is still uncertain, another European club has increased their interest in him. Lyon has the option to make their loan agreement permanent in the summer.

Will Trabzonspor sign? Duje Caleta-Car
Trabzonspor and Southampton have developed a close relationship after the latter completed moves for Paul Onuachu and Mislav Oršić in

summertime.

Sport Witness reports that Haber 61, an outlet, claims that the Turkish team is stepping up efforts to sign Caleta-Car from the Saints in an attempt to capitalize on their link.

The report states that Trabzonspor will “intensify their negotiations” in front of a possible summer transfer if Lyon chooses not to sign the Croatian on a permanent basis.

Caleta-Car’s future is most likely away from St. Mary’s unless a significant U-turn is done, though it is unclear whether he would be content to move to Turkish coasts.
