On Friday, June 21, the Box Hill Hawks celebrated a major milestone, marking 25 years of alignment with the Hawthorn Football Club. The event, held at Rivers Edge Events, brought together key figures who have contributed to the partnership over the past quarter-century.

During this alignment, the clubs have secured an impressive list of achievements, including 4 AFL premierships, 1 VFLW premiership, 3 VFL senior premierships, and 5 VFL development league premierships, a record unmatched in the AFL competition.

The founders of the alignment, John Ure and Ian Dicker, envisioned a successful collaboration, and their agreement has endured over time.

The evening featured speeches from VFL Senior Coach Zane Littlejohn and VFL Captain Callum Porter, who reflected on the 2024 season so far. A guest speaker panel included current Box Hill VFLW Captain and 2018 Premiership Player Tamara Luke, two-time Box Hill VFL Premiership Player David Mirra, VFL veteran Damian Mascitti, and Box Hill to Hawthorn graduate Fergus Greene.

Testimonial videos from notable figures like Sam Mitchell, Jai Newcombe, Allan McDonald, and Graeme ‘The Colonel’ Walsh underscored the strong unity between Box Hill and Hawthorn.

Comedian and Hawks fan Dilruk Jayasinha entertained the crowd with a comedy set, adding to the evening’s enjoyment.

The 25-year celebration was a joyous occasion filled with shared stories, highlighting both the history and future of the Box Hill and Hawthorn clubs’ alignment.
