Mengi exhorts his team to take Wolves to task for their home loss.

Teden Mengi, a defender for Luton, called Saturday’s humiliating 5-1 loss to Brentford at home “unacceptable.”

The Hatters lost 2-0 at halftime, with Yoanne Wissa scoring twice, despite having their best players—Mengi, Gabe Osho, and Sambi Lokonga—out of the game for a considerable amount of time. This was their best opportunity to leave the relegation zone. They lost again in the closing minutes when substitute Kevin Schade scored, and things only got worse after the interval with goals from Ethan Pinnock and Keane Lewis-Potter within minutes of each other after the hour.

Luke Berry scored a late consolation goal, but Mengi, who had himself recovered from missing the 5-1 defeat at Manchester City the weekend before owing to a knee injury, tweeted the following: “Unacceptable, we know.” Mengi went on to make 10 clearances, win four aerial challenges, and record two interceptions and two blocks. But we have to leave again! There are still four huge games! I appreciate all of the Hatters’ unwavering and ongoing support. You deserve all of it.

@dicreamio responded to the defender’s remarks by saying, “There will undoubtedly be many twists and turns.” @mikedoney Sadly, there are moments in life when success surpasses expectations from supporters. We can only hope that you guys give it your all in the remaining games to see where we end up. You guys have been amazing this season, though. That is Captain’s chat right there, by the way.

“I really appreciate all of your efforts, Teden, even though you’re still playing despite your knee pain,” said @elaineholland52. It’s wonderful to see guys like you back on the field, head up and onto the wolves COYH. @_TeamsLikeLuton: “We keep our heads up and go again.” “All to play for, we learn and we don’t give up,” said @MarkBur09987361. We were the favorites to lose, and the rest is history when we fell 5-1 to Everton at home in 1983 with two away games left against Manchester United and Manchester City. COYH, keep up the good work. You’ve been amazing.

@sonic_sinclair: “We all say it again, we go. The Luton Town team has performed admirably for us this Elite League season. Although Luton hasn’t performed as well as they could have, the fact that they’ve scored more than them counts, in my opinion. Indeed, “We Go Again.” “There’s a lot of credit in the bank @TedenMengi,” said @PaulSparks1964. Next week, we’re all going again #COYH. @JordanTompkinss: “Continue; it is still possible.”

@markyBBM: “It takes a big man to say that. We need you back bigger than ever for just four games. Come on @Teden, I believe in you.” @Patofminch: “Keep on with your huge spirit Teden, we all love you – and behind the squad recovering and fighting on… We can still do this!!” @cclarke100: “We go again, 100% behind you and the boys. We can do this ..COYH.”

@danieldp05: “We got big games coming up teden, please don’t dwell on this game. We’ll keep supporting.” @GK1Lob: “Bad day at the office but 4 winnable cup finals to go and Forest have absolutely rattled themselves! We can get them!!!” @LTFCkas: “Keep going teden, don’t dwell on yesterday, just give everything for the last 4 games. COYH.” @CJ_Hatter: “A rare bad day at the office Teden – time to sign a 5 year extension to your contract….”
